Episode 50: Bullet Train Review (MOVIES)

Friends Occasionally Not Disagreeing speeds into their 50th episode with their review of Bullet Train! The recent movie stars Brad Pitt and a wonderful ensemble cast and is now streaming on Netflix. They go through what they knew about the movie before their review, if anything, and how well the movie met those expectations. Time is spent comparing this movie to films by a certain other famous director. The cast's performances are examined and scenes are chosen that stand out in the film. ONLY MILD STORY SPOILERS ahead!

FOND 2023 kicks off! Joe tries to keep Brett and Cody on task as the hosts get fast and loose with their 2023 Movie Preview! After an extended discussion of all things that the hosts have been spending time on lately, they get to the main show with some honorable mentions and the movies from 2023 that no one asked for! They then count down their respective ten most anticipated movies for 2023. How many movies made all three of their lists? Which ones came out on top? Which host has the best taste? YOU DECIDE! Episode 48: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Review (MOVIES)

FOND is back, baby! 2023 kicks off with a review of a recent release in both theaters and on Netflix: Glass Onion! Cody takes Brett and Joe through Rian Johnson's second mystery involving detective Benoit Blanc. The ensemble piece was released in theaters for one week only and released on Netflix on December 23rd. The hosts talk about what they look for in a good murder mystery, what they thought of the first movie, Knives Out, and the way the whodunnit formula was twisted in this particular story. There is both a NON-SPOILER and SPOILER section, so you can listen to some general thoughts, even if you haven't seen the new release yet. The spoiler section goes into the ratings, cast performances, and, of course, those cameos and Easter eggs!

Episode 47.5: Silent Night, Deadly Night Retrospective (MOVIES)

Justin brings the holiday spirit in this special episode focused on the Silent Night, Deadly Night film series. He talks about why there is a connection between horrors and Christmas, brings in some history, and then mentions some forgotten Christmas horror films. The big show starts when he goes through all five of the Silent Night, Deadly night films including: Silent Night, Deadly Night; Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2; Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out!; Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation; and Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker! It's about as touchy-feely, snuggly-wuggly as we have! And what perfect timing as Studio Ghibli just announced there will be a final movie by Hayao Miyazaki releasing in 2023! Episode 46: Top Ten Tool Songs (MUSIC)

In what can only be described as a bizarre lead up to the holidays, the hosts look at the rock band Tool this week. Cody and Brett welcome a returning Matt and a debuting Dan as they go through a look at Maynard & Co.--the band Tool! The hosts go through their own experiences with the band and things get a little more introspective than expected as they talk about highs and lows in their lives, when Tool got them through some tough times, how Tool is helping them face being middle-aged, and more. They go through the famous music videos for the band and also talk about what the band is like in concert. Famous urban legends are addressed and also a rumor that the wife of one of the hosts used to bump into Maynard's dad occasionally at her work. Finally, they get around to the actual music of the band and go through the traditional honorable mentions and top ten lists.

Episode 45: Taylor Swift's Midnights 3AM Edition Review (MUSIC)

Joe talks a lot and Cody occasionally chimes in on the latest album to drop from Taylor Swift, Midnights. But they look at the extended 3AM edition of the album. They go through their history of listening to Taylor Swift and what they think of her as a person, songwriter, and musician. They also explore the fiasco that was the Ticketmaster concert tickets problem across the nation, and they discuss who is really at fault. Finally the hosts get into a track by track review of each of the twenty songs on the extended edition. They wrap up with some closing thoughts and bring this one to an end. Joe went into this album as a converted Swifty while Cody was the hard-nosed critic. Did their thoughts change as they listened to this one?

Episode 44: The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE)

In this episode Cody takes Dave and Brett through a recap of the new, festive Disney+ offering The Guardians of the Galaxy Special! Before they get into that, though, they discuss the format of the new "Special Presentation" style of MCU offerings. The potential for future offerings under the Special Presentation banner are considered. Then they go through very brief recaps of their thoughts on Werewolf by Night, the first movie to have the new label on Disney+. Then the guys hit the main topic, which is a recap of how much they enjoyed The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. What did Mantis and Drax do in their first starring roles? Was Kevin Bacon great or really great? How did it deliver as a holiday movie? And what are some ways the show furthers the actual story of the Guardians of the Galaxy? The hosts read a review from Joe and then each chime in with their own ratings for the special. Finally, Cody shares eight directions the MCU is moving into, with different "branches" led by different groups of heroes. It's becoming a pretty crowded place, and there are far more heroes on the horizon. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Kang has the hosts all hot and bothered as they put Phase 4 to an end with this special and look forward to Phase 5!

Episode 41: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Review (MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE)

Listen up! FOND hit the theaters this weekend to let you know if you need to go see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever! In the opening NON-SPOILER section, Cody and Dave take you through their expectations in an MCU movie dealing with the tragic, real-life loss of Chadwick Boseman who played Black Panther. They give their thoughts on if the film respected his legacy and if the decisions the directors and producers made were the correct call or not. They also give you a general recommendation on going to see the film or not!

Then, in the SPOILERY half, Cody and Dave go through a very quick overview of the plot while focusing on the returning and new characters in this movie. They both pick some of their favorite moments and talk about what the mood was in their respective theaters when they saw the film. We won't put much more in the description here, for those who don't want spoilers, but they give a long list of points about the film and how it affects the MCU going forward!

Cody takes Justin and Matt through a review of the game's odd release history, talk about how they first experienced the game, what they liked about the game, what they hated about the game, and far more! Cody goes crazy over a certain button that needs to be pushed on his controller. Justin absolutely loves the plot of this game. Matt reminisces about the music in the game. They give their opinions on what worked and what didn't. Blu, who didn't make the recording, sends some messages to us with his thoughts as well. It's going to get a spicy!
